The Paper of Personnel
While many individuals enter the Human Resource field because they enjoy interacting with people, much of the work of Human Resource professionals revolves around paper. This half-day workshop will cover the paper part of personnel. It will focus on policies, forms, employee handbooks, documentation, and written communication material. Group discussion will address the best way of handling the volume of paper and files involved. Specific items included are:
- What paper does the employee need to have?
- What should be documented?
- What records should be retained and for how long?
- What is the difference between an employee handbook and a personnel policy manual?
- How can forms be simplified, yet be comprehensive?
Samples of forms and recordkeeping systems will be provided, in addition to a comprehensive record retention handout. The Paper of Personnel can be very helpful in structuring a liability reducing environment. Participants are encouraged to come with specific questions and situations to discuss for this problem-solving morning.
