Supervisory Survival - What Does It Take?
Supervisors hold a critical position in the organization. Employees look to them as communicators
of management's expectations and rules. Executives and managers look to supervisors to motivate and guide the actions of employees. Supervisors experience pressures to perform from each side. The skills needed to function effectively in this role are numerous. This half-day program will focus on some of the most critical skills and provide suggestions to help supervisors of all levels. Special attention will be paid to:
Communication skills - how to get the message across, when to listen/when to talk, what words work best when, how to get the quiet ones to speak up;
Motivation skills - how to get people to perform at their best, when to coach and when to discipline, how to determine when management or leadership will work best; and
Training skills - how to know if someone really understands how to do a job, when to tell and when to show, how to use training as an award.
Spiced with real-life examples and stories everyone can relate to, this highly interactive session will provide attendees with a comprehensive handout packet and
some effective ideas that can be quickly applied. Supervisors will depart with a better understanding of their role and the skills necessary to survive in between employer and employees.
