Life Events - Marriage

Congratulations!  If you are in the wedding planning stages, or if you have recently been married, this is no doubt a very exciting and hectic time for you.

As far as your employee benefits are concerned, the main thing to remember is that you typically have 30 days from the date of your marriage to enroll your new spouse (dependent children if applicable) for dependent insurance coverage, if that is your desire.  Make sure that you complete an enrollment form (or waiver form if you are declining coverage) for your new dependent(s) for each coverage/carrier that is offered to dependents.

You may also want to change your beneficiary on your 401(k) and/or Life Insurance plan.  You'll find the appropriate forms in the Forms section.

If you are participating in the Flexible Spending Account/Dependent Care Account, you may now choose to increase your contribution to this account due to your change in status with the addition of a new spouse/children.

Also, you may wish to review and consider the number of exemptions you are claiming on your W-4.

The premiums for adding dependents to your coverage are available online.

Please consult your HR Department for the necessary forms to be completed, and they will submit them to the appropriate insurance companies and/or administrators.
